The morning was unstructured. Which means that we were late getting out, and spent a few hours walking the streets of Nerja doing some mundane tasks.
One of those mundane tasks was finding the Museo where the Cuevatren stopped. Google maps and GPS seemed to have trouble with the narrow winding streets. We found the train too late to check out the museum. This little train took us 4 or 5 km to the Cuevas de Nerja that were (re) discovered in 1959. Every July there is a music festival inside the cave, which must be fabulous.
The photos really give no idea of the size (big!) and intricacy (like the art at the Alhambra!) of the cave formations.
After the cave tour, we found the starting point for one stage of the Gran Senda de Malaga, which we will walk tomorrow to Frigiliana. It is 5 km by car but 15 km to walk. We might be able to meet up with a Camino friend Magwood to walk back the next day.
Staying the night at Hotel Al Andalus, which is very pleasant.
We were lucky enough to secure tickets for Eva Yerbabuena June 2015 at the caves. Such a wonderful evening. I made a little video…
Awesome video, Maggie! What a treat to see Flamenco in the beautiful cuevas de Nerja!
Thanks for sharing. My husband and I did a Spanish immersion course in Nerja. Loved it!
