Some walking was in order for a change – Stage 5 of the Gran Senda de Malaga, about 15 km from Cuevas de Nerja to Frigiliana. It was perfect weather, being generally cloudy with a few sun breaks to keep things cheerful, and not too warm.
MB had just this morning figured out how to get the KML file loaded onto our phones so we could track our progress precisely with GPS. However, the trail was well marked.
The walk was more of a hike (see the profile on the link!) But we went SO slowly that it was not very hard.

Well, it was a bit hard when MB got stuck on a rock crossing the Rio Chillar. Good thing the water was low!
MB tended to lag behind a bit.
The views were spectacular. We wonder how many more of the spectacular caves might be hidden under the hills.
A piece of the Costa del Sol was sometimes visible.
Finally, Frigiliana appeared out of nowhere, looking like an isolated village on the hilltop. (This is the advantage of not researching much in advance – everything is a surprise.)
As we reached the village from the back entrance, it became apparent that we were not so isolated after all. We stayed and ate at Hotel Las Chinas.
Next morning we met blogger Magwood and her friend for coffee. She had suggested this path, and was about to walk it for the first time herself, in the other direction. Read about her day here.
We did a wander about Frigiliana. All of this walking is done with backpacks on, leaving us always able to change plans.
We’ve abandoned our sleeping bags to lighten up a bit. (We don’t need them now, and too much heat treatment pretty much destroyed the insulation value anyway!)
Got on the next bus to Malaga where I was miraculously successful in buying a dress that I need soon after getting home.
