Packing light for Australia

As always, I am trying to pack exactly the right things and no more. This trip will be generally a warm weather trip – springtime Melbourne and late-spring Brisbane and Sydney. Also, it is a civilized place where they speak English, so I can easily get anything I might need.

I do have one business-related meeting so I need to dress for that. Here is my stuff:

  • The outfit on the left is my dressy apparel – cotton/poly sweater from the famous Tilleys, which is where the hat obviously came from too.
  • Everything else is synthetic quick-dry
  • Walking shoes
  • Sandals
  • Light weight rain jacket
  • Cloth bag containing socks, underwear, and PJs
  • Bathing suit
  • 3 tops

In addition I’m taking

  • Camera and charger
  • iPhone and charger
  • Bag of toiletries (toothpaste/brush, sunscreen, medicines, bandaids, wet-wipes, etc., etc.
  • Guide book

It all fits nicely into a backpack that can be carried on. I also have a very small backpack for day use, that I’ll have at my feet on the plane.

However I will be stuffing in a winter coat and some jeans for Daughter N.

    • Do I detect sarcasm here? (I’ve never thought you were fond of ANY of my clothes!) That is a new white shirt and there is a purple/eggplant running t-shirt, just in case I should decide to take up running while I am traveling.
